Iron Skillet Cornbread

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Southern Grits Company Cornmeal
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 1 cup milk


Steps:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400F.
  2. Grease an 8" cast iron skillet and place in oven to pre-heat. 
  3. In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients.
  4. Add milk, egg, and oil to the bowl and mix well.
  5. Carefully remove pre-heated skillet from oven using safe oven mitts and pour batter into it. Place back into oven.
  6. Cook for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.


For added flavor, lightly spread butter on top of the cornbread after baking before removing from pan.


Cut into triangles or your favorite shape and enjoy!
